15 Feb Old Boy’s Social Club
What is the old boys social club?
The OSBC was started in 1986 by our founding father uncle Ben Gay, and a “bunch of drunks that got together to have a good time” on the porch of T-shirt Bob Lorenc’s trailer when he lived over at the old Playa Hermosa in Penasco. This original group of approximately 10 members on Bob’s porch has grown to well over 200 members in 2015. Many potential members ask what is the purpose of the O.B.S.C.? Long-time members sum it up: NONE! There is no purpose, mission or agenda. We just have fun! The O.B.S.C. sponsors at least seven events throughout the year. They include the Mardi Gras parade & dinner, St. Patrick’s Day dinner, a Summer steak Fry, Winterfest, Oktoberfest, and a New Years Eve party. Depending on the nature of the event, numbers pay $10-20 to attend. The remainder of the party expenses is funded from members’ dues of $25 per year. Each year in April, the OBSC parties with a purpose. Proceeds from the annual Bash and Barbecue benefit the Peñacso DIF and Lions Club. 2016 will mark the 30th year of the annual Bash. These donations generated at the Bash, have totaled over $25,000 throughout the years. Membership meetings are held on one Sunday each month at 11 a.m., except in July, August and September. All meetings and events are held at the Cholla community center. Recently the homeowners association and the Cholla Bay sportsmen’s club have entered into an agreement to make the existing community center a community clubhouse for all to use. The O.B.S.C. is a prime recipient of this pack, financially participating to make the community center suitable for our O.B.S.C. events.
